The Information Age
My main skill in life is almost always going to be proclaimed
as computing. I have been working with computers (by that I mostly
mean programming
computers)
since the days of BASIC on BBC Micro PC systems. That was when
I was in the latter years of primary school (I was about 12 or
13 years old), so in terms of experience, you could say I have
had some considerable experience in the field of IT. Languages
I have written in include BASIC, Microsoft® QBASIC®,
Microsoft® Visual Basic® 5 and 6, PHP
Scripting and some very limited ASP. I can also write bits
and bobs in many other, respectfully less important, script languages
such
as
Windows® batch
scripts, VBScript, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, etc.
Having put together and fully installed many personal computers
in my experience, I also have some knowledge of the hardware
side of IT, as well as the previously mentioned software skills.
Suffice to say, however, I am both more interested and more skilled
in the software side. Nevertheless, I have still managed to set
up basic Microsoft® Windows® networks (LAN's), and I
also have a fairly decent understanding of what components are
good to buy, and which are not in the IT hardware market today.
In addition to these interests and skills, I also enjoy creating
web sites and computer generated graphics. This is a topic that
I have recently put lot's of time in practising, and I am learning
at a fast rate - reminds me of the good old days back in primary
school!
Nine to five
I'll let you in on
the fact that I work full time during weekdays as a Computer
Programmer for an IT company. I live Apsley,
and work in Kings Langley.
You would probably guess that I like my job (most of the time) because
it's something that I am fundamentally interested in and good at. You'd be right
if you guessed that! I won't give away details of exactly whom
I work for because I like to maintain some level of
privacy these days. I've come to realise that not everybody
is nice in this world. Take Hitler for example. I think that proves my point.
Less geek please
All right, it has to be said, I'm not a mega or 'uber' geek
(in my opinion, anyway :S). I do partake in other things than
just messing around with computers (yes, really, I do), such
as 'normal' social pleasures. This normally includes the pub,
but failing
that, beer is involved in some way. I enjoy a few sports, like
swimming, badminton, rounders and mountain biking\cycling. I
have also attended concerts\gigs (bands such as Fall Out Boy,
Nickelback, Our Lady Peace and AFI
rank
very highly on my list of eligible artists) and other similar
things like that.
Heres a list of some music I like:
Green Day, InMe, Something Corporate, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Scissor Sistors,
Keane, Coldplay, Maroon 5, Mars Volta, Fall Out Boy, Nickelback,
Hoobastank, Six by Seven, Faithless, Boxcar Racer, Blink 182,
Good Charlotte, Limp Biz Kit, 3 Doors Down, Aerosmith, AFI, Alkaline
Trio, All-American Rejects, American Head Charge, Ash, Audioslave,
Bowling For Soup, Brandnew, Chevelle, Creed, Daft Punk, Dido,
Depeche Mode, Dishwalla, Disturbed, Drop Line, Our Lady Peace,
Drowning Pool, Electric Six, HIM, Placebo, Muse, Feeder, Finch,
